100. Earl "the Goat" Manigault - Basketball

"The Goat"- did not play pro basketball. "The Goat" did not even finish his high school career. He played almost a full season of college basketball (one game). But of all the legends that stepped foot at Rucker Park in New York, no man left his mark like Earl Manigault.

Goat battled the likes of Lew Alcindor and Connie Hawkins in the 1960's. His heroin addiction cost him a professional basketball career. He was featured in a 1996 HBO movie, Rebound, Directed by Eric La Salle. His dominationof players at the 98th Street courts was so well known that it became nicknamed Goat Park. He played college ball at Johnson C. Smith University but fought with the coach about playing time and returned to the Harlem courts. He was jailed in 1969-70 for drug possession and again in 1977-79 for a failed robbery. He later kicked his drug habit and had been working at a neighborhood recreation and counseling center;
Died of heart failure on May 15, 1998. He was 53.
